You create your product model in 3-D, and derive a corresponding 2-D drawing from the 3-D model. Or you can create a draft in 2-D first and then automatically derive a 3-D model from this 2-D drawing.

ROBERT NYBLAD GmbH – Industry: Mechanical engineering / plant engineering

Whether filigree constructions or heavy steel engineering machines – the ROBERT NYBLAD GmbH is equally at home in both domains. Founded in 1878, the tradition-steeped company fabricates both machines for rough industrial environments and detailed, special machines with complex control systems for an international market. Its main fields of activity are the construction of processing plants for pulp production, plants for the paper and board industry, conveyor systems and subcontracted work. For more than 10 years, NYBLAD has been using HiCAD (CAD) and HELiOS (PDM) for its design tasks.

"Given our wide range of activities, we are glad to have a system like HiCAD, which enables us to perform all tasks from mechanical construction and steel engineering through to the design of the required sheet metal elements“, explains one of the NYBLAD engineers. Another big advantage is the perfect interaction between external 2-D data and 3-D modelling, since 2-D CAD is still in use at NYBLAD: "We often receive 2-D DXF files from our customers or suppliers as a planning basis. Therefore, the possibility to use and process 2-D and 3-D elements in one drawing is a very useful aid", says one of the engineers. The DXF file for a machine can simply be opened and the planned modifications can be implemented in 3-D.
