Our history

The ISD was founded in June 1977 by Günter Flassig and Ernst-Otto Georg as "Ingenieurgesellschaft für Statik und Dynamik im Anlagen- und Maschinenbau" in Dortmund, Germany, and quickly made a name for itself as an engineering company in the field of nuclear technology. Already at that time the first own software for the support of calculations and project processes was developed by the ISD. Already in the 80s ISD concentrated on the development of CAD software, which was still in its infancy at that time. The result was HiCAD, today one of the top 5 CAD systems worldwide and the only one with true 2D/3D associativity and integrated industry solutions. Right from the start, HiCAD included a database component for the integrated management of non-geometric product properties. As the management and transparent access to product data turned out to be an increasingly important and not to be underestimated factor of the process chain, the ISD reacted quickly: In 1996 HELiOS, the comprehensive PDM solution, was derived from the HiCAD database component .

Innovation by tradition

The system solutions of ISD are based on the ESM kernel (European Solid Modeller)developed by the company itself. This ensures absolute independence and extreme flexibility when it comes to quickly picking up and implementing current market developments and customer requirements. "Through the continuous expansion of our development department in recent years, we have been able to provide innovative impulses for our software solutions," explains Dr. Markus Grunwald, Technical Director of the ISD.

The constant personnel and economic development, combined with a progressive orientation of the product management, is the basis of the company's success. "In addition, we are aware of our responsibility towards our employees and strive for long-term employee retention. This guarantees us as a company a sustained high level of know-how and thus also a rapid implementation of new customer requirements", summarizes Dr. Markus Grunwald.

Global presence, strong roots

Parallel to the development capacities, the sales and service sector was continuously expanded. The ISD consistently pursues close contact with the market at all levels. In addition to software development, the company deliberately keeps the threads in its own hands in sales, service, consulting and training. "This makes us a reliable partner throughout the entire product life cycle," says Michael Strucker, Sales Director of the ISD. "Customers choose the ISD because they value the partnership-based cooperation, appreciate the short and direct paths and can further develop the solutions of the ISD," Michael Strucker explains. "This results in a perfect exchange between our users and the ISD." With strong roots in Germany and successful subsidiaries in The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland, we are strongly positioned in the market.
